Implants-Placement and Restoration
Consultation
The first step is to schedule a consultation with an implant dentist. During the consultation, the dentist will examine your mouth, take X-rays, and discuss your goals and concerns.
Planning
The dentist will then plan the implant placement, taking into consideration factors such as the location of the missing tooth, the health of the jawbone, and the overall condition of the patient's oral health.
Surgery
The next step is to place the implant into the jawbone. This is typically done under local anesthesia or IV sedation. The implant is inserted into the jawbone and allowed to heal for several months.
Healing
After the implant is placed, it takes several months for the implant to fuse with the jawbone in a process called osseointegration. During this time, the patient will typically be given a temporary replacement tooth to wear.
Restoration
After the implant has fused with the jawbone, a permanent replacement tooth (such as a crown, bridge, or denture) is attached to the implant.
